AWAS: Afghan Women Portraits

I'm Maryam, a Masterstudent at HSLU Luzern and one of the co-founders of AWAS - Afghan Women Association Switzerland. As a native Afghan, I see it as my duty to raise my voice for the voiceless women of my country. The history of Afghan women is marked by war and oppression, but I want to show you a different side: the side of inspiring women who have remained true to their dreams despite all adversities. Women who have built a new life in Switzerland and are becoming role models for the new generation. If you're interested in these stories, stay tuned - I will regularly post more articles and videos about them. Together we can help amplify and spread the voices and stories of Afghan women.

Farida Sediqi, a woman who emigrated in her forties and a former project manager in Afghanistan

Lida Naeim-Jäggi, a woman who fled her country after the revolution of 1979 and has been journeying ever since

Horia Hashimi, a young woman and scholar whose authenticity and drive aren’t her only attributes

Zohra Saidali, the successful leader of a help organization and a lucid witness of the effects of migration

Mahnaz Shahid, a woman with an inclusive goal in mind and a clear path ahead

Homayra Danishyar-Sajjadi, a mother, MBA, and this association’s co-founder who gives herself the best chances to succeed on all fronts
